Courageous Advocacy

At Uffington Church of England Primary School, we believe in the power of advocacy and the impact that our collective efforts can have on the world around us. Our commitment to making a difference is reflected in the various initiatives we support, demonstrating our values of love, respect, and resilience.

Our Initiatives

  • Supporting Local Food Banks: We actively contribute to local food banks, helping to provide essential supplies to families in need within our community. Through food drives and fundraising events, our pupils learn the importance of compassion and community support.

  • Children in Need: Each year, we participate in Children in Need, raising funds to support vulnerable children across the UK. Our pupils engage in various activities, fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy for those less fortunate.

  • Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal: Around Remembrance Day, our school supports the Royal British Legion by selling poppy appeal items. This initiative allows pupils to learn about the significance of remembrance, honour those who have served, and contribute to the welfare of veterans and their families.

  • Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day: Each year, we participate in Christmas Jumper Day to support Save the Children. Pupils are encouraged to wear festive jumpers and make a donation, helping to provide vital assistance to children in need both in the UK and around the world during the holiday season.

  • Comic Relief: Our school joins the national effort to support Comic Relief, participating in fun activities and fundraising challenges. This initiative not only raises money but also teaches our pupils about social justice and the importance of helping others.

  • SMAUK (Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK): This year, we are proud to announce that SMAUK has been chosen as our Charity of the Year through a pupil vote. This decision reflects our commitment to supporting those affected by spinal muscular atrophy, raising awareness, and contributing to vital research and support services.

    Pupil Parliament and Eco Club

    • Pupil Parliament: Our Pupil Parliament empowers our pupils to engage in decision-making processes that affect their school and community. Through discussions and votes, they advocate for initiatives that promote social responsibility and environmental stewardship.

    • Eco Club: The Eco Club is dedicated to supporting our local environment and spreading awareness about global ecological issues. Pupils participate in activities that enhance biodiversity, reduce waste, and promote sustainability within our school and community.

    Exploring Current Affairs

    • Weekly Current Affairs Discussions: We encourage our pupils to explore current affairs, both locally and globally. Through weekly Collective Worship, they reflect on how events around the world impact their lives and consider ways to support others. This practice fosters a sense of global citizenship and encourages pupils to take informed actions in their own lives.

Join Us in Making a Difference

We invite our school community, parents, and local partners to join us in our advocacy efforts. Together, we can create a nurturing environment where every individual feels valued and empowered to make a positive impact.

Let’s continue to champion causes that matter and demonstrate that, indeed, we can make a difference.
